I’m a Motley Mutt! April 18, 2011

Yesterday was a long day. A very long, long day. It started at noon, when Mom, BJ and I got to Aunt Linda’s, where I found out I was there under false pretenses: I wasn’t there to play with Doogie, I was there to get a haircut while BJ got to play outside. Aunt Linda kept Doogie and Maggie in the house so BJ could just relax outside for awhile. Mom and Aunt Linda said it would only be for an hour or so. HA! WOOF!! An hour and a half after starting my haircut, Mom and Aunt Linda had only clipped my face, the ridge of my back and one leg! They gave up and Aunt Linda started going through the phone book. No one was open. Of course not, it was Sunday! Then Mom had an idea and called Motley Mutts (http://www.motleymuttsdogwashvb.com/) and the nice man who answered said sure, they would fix what Mom and Aunt Linda started if they could get me there by 2pm. Mom said “Yikes! We’re on our way!”, grabbed me and off we flew. I’m not saying Mom broke any traffic laws getting us there on time but a couple of traffic lights gave us the benefit of the doubt! ARF!!! The nice mans was Adam, the owner, and “they” turned out to be Melissa! BOL

We got there and Melissa said she’d take care of me and we must have been some kind of good luck charm because as soon as she said she could help us, three dogs came in to use their self-serve bathing tubs! So while she helped them, Mom and Aunt Linda and I made friends with Blue, Adam’s Irish Wolfhound PUPPY! This guy isn’t even a year old and he’s as tall as BJ!!

Then things settled down and Melissa put me on the grooming table and the fun began. She was very nice and very gentle and I liked her even tho I wouldn’t give her a kiss when we got done!

Mom and Aunt Linda left me with Melissa and I don’t know where they went but they did come back for me! It’s nice to know I’m not going to be abandoned like some of the puppies I hear about.

But we did abandon enough fur to knit another dog! Mom was joking that the fur on my feet was growing as fast as Melissa could clip it! BOL

I was too scared of the blower dryer thing so they decided to just let me air dry, which I did in the car on the way back to Aunt Linda’s to get BJ. All in all, my grooming took just over four and a half hours!! And through it all, I was a good girl, and Melissa was so patient and easy with me, I’m hoping Mom takes me back there sometime!

And Mr. Johnny, Aunt Linda’s husband, said that except for the whining, BJ was a good boy. I’m glad Mom brought BJ along– seven hours alone in the house would have been too much for him. At least this way, hang with Mr. Johnny and enjoy being outside. BJ’s crazy like that– he thinks it’s okay to be outside. ARF!! Silly BJ! WOOF!!

The angels are crying today. March 10, 2011

JBV and her fur babies. 🙂

Mom says that’s what happens when someone special goes to heaven, the angels cry. They cried a whole bunch on 1-10-2011 when Jill went there unexpectedly. We all cried. But today we can celebrate because she is in heaven and not in pain and she’s with Rachael and Bridget and my big brother Buddy and none of them are in pain any more. Her private memorial service is starting soon and Mom’s gonna light a candle here for her at home. I’d light one too but without an opposable thumb I’m not sure I could do it. BOL

We’ll miss her. But Mom says I don’t have to worry about my “cousins”: Jordan’s with Chris (our animal communicator friend), Gem’s in a great home where she’s an only child and being spoiled even more than she already was, and Ava’s in a wonderful forever home with a big brother and a big sister and she’s doing great. Better than me, Mom says! Hey– not my fault if I’m scared of the outdoors. Except the car– I love to go for rides in the car!

Good-bye, Jill. And as Mom would say, “Sleep well, friend. I’ll catch ya later.”

Is it Saturday yet? December 22, 2010

I can’t wait until Saturday! Not only will BJ and I get to open our presents, so will hundreds of special dogs and cats and rabbits and birds and more animals I don’t know the names of because of a really nice guy named Santa Paws! Yep, I said Santa Paws! My mom knows him and says he’s one of the coolest humans EVER. She and dozens of other volunteers, Santa Paws’ Elves (BOL), spent last Sunday packing up goody bags for more of Santa Paws’ Elves to deliver this Saturday, Christmas morning. I wish I could be there to see the looks on the faces of the animals mom’s and dad’s as they answer a knock on the door to find an elf handing them bags stuffed with food and toys and treats for their furry kids! How cool of a surprise is that, huh?

Another human who has met Santa Paws, Tamara Dietrich, a reporter with the Daily Press, a local newspaper here in the Hampton Roads area, explained a bit about the process in her article last Friday (Dec 17, 2010). “Nominations come from social workers, animal control officers, veterinarians, neighbors, friends. They come from as far south as North Carolina, up into New Kent County and over to the Eastern Shore”. Once Santa Paws receives the nomination, he adds it to his list, checks it twice, and makes sure the nominated families get what their pets need for a Merry Christmas, with individualized bags of goodies which even contain food that accommodates a pets special dietary needs.

Here’s Santa Paws’ card: Isn’t that cute? BOL

“To donate, volunteer or nominate a pet owner for assistance, call 757-356-9119 or visit the website http://www.santapaws-foundation.com. You can also mail monetary donations to Santa Paws, P.O. Box 883, Smithfield, VA 23431.” Ms Dietrich continues, “Donations don’t just pay for goody bags for one day of the year. They also stock a pet food bank that, last year, supplied struggling families with pet food right through October.”

I know this is a bit different from one of my usual ramblings, but Mom, BJ and I really like the feeling of paying it forward by volunteering to help others. Mom can’t afford to donate money, so she donates time. What can you donate this holiday season, huh?

Anyway, to all our friends, near and far, two-legged and four:(Graphics by Gothic Charms)

I clean up good! September 14, 2010

I went to the groomer’s yesterday. It was kinda scary but Tracy was real nice to me and Mom was super pleased with the way I turned out.

This is me before my “date” with the groomer:

Pretty scruffy lookin', huh?

And this is me two hours later:

I look GOOD! BOL

Mom said there was enough fur under the grooming stand to make a whole ‘nother dog! BOL I think she was exaggerating just a bit but I bet there won’t be as many dust bunnies in our house for awhile!

Happy Birthday, BJ!! September 12, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lily @ 4:32 pm

Today is your 5th birthday. Today you have been with Mom and me for 5 months. It’s hard now to think of a time when you weren’t with us. We still miss our Buddy Bear, but you are definitely holding a huge chunk of our hearts.

So here’s to you, BJ– may this birthday be just the first of many you share with Mom and me– and your new pet therapy friends!

Just chillin' on a rainy day. 🙂

Yummy treats!! September 8, 2010

I told my new friends over at Cranimals that I wanted to link to their site. They were so happy about that they got together and designed a new icon and here it is for the first time anywhere! BOL

Cranimals brand new icon!!

Pretty cool, huh? It shows all their neat organic treats. I haven’t tried any but the Zendog and BJ and I are in love with them! They taste super yummy and they seem to work. We haven’t had any thunderstorms or fireworks since we got them but when Mom gave me a couple of them the other night, I didn’t jump every time one of our neighbors shut their car door! Mom didn’t notice any difference in BJ but he’s so HUGE she may need to give him like five or six to my one or two! BOL

Anyway– there’s a link over there on the right. See it? It says “Cranimals– the home of Zendog Biscuits!” Go click on it and check ’em out. And remember, you saw the new icon here first! BOL

Hard to believe it’s been a year already since Buddy crossed over The Rainbow Bridge. Mom still says good-night to him every night. I miss him too. So I thought I’d raid Mom’s computer and just post a bunch of pictures of Buddy being Buddy. Ready? Right. Here goes. 🙂

He loved making people smile.

He especially loved the little people.

He loved to hear a good story read by a little person.

He was very proud of being a charter member of The Buddy Brigade.

He'd wear almost anything! Valentine's 2007

He even had formal wear, ready for any occasion.

He was a handsome fella.

He was a happy fella.

He was my fella, my big brother.

We miss you, Buddy.
